Having first picked up a guitar at 12 years of age, Sean would finish school and go on to cut his teeth in bars on the other side of the world, before kicking against the pricks in brilliantly ramshackle fashion as the leader of energetic trio Trap Door. A two-year stint wielding a six-string – and the occasional mandolin – for Raglans led to more polished indie fare.
If you go in for the quick and easy comparison thing, previous connections to Jamie T and Buddy Holly make a certain amount of sense, but that’s merely a snapshot. Guitar music may not need ‘saving’ but some well-tuned brash expression wouldn’t go amiss. Striking stories with a sting in the tail, told well? Yeah, he can do that.
Having spent the last 2 years toiling over a plethora of home-made demos leading to the recording of his debut EP with the Grammy Award-winning Rob Kirwan (Hozier/The Horrors), 2018 looks very promising for Sean OB.
